Get in Pole Position to Explore Our New Escape Room

Our new escape room, Pole Position, launched in April 2023, is another unique, locally themed escape room game, this time sending you to Antarctica to embark on the Great British Antarctic expedition in hopes of locating the South Pole.

Pole Position is inspired by Cheltenham born Edward Wilson and his polar explorations. Edward Wilson was one of the five man British team to attempt to be first to travel to the South Pole on the Terra Nova expedition of 1911. Although the team successfully reached the Pole, they sadly perished in a blizzard on the return journey. Wilson is commemorated with a statue on the Promenade in Cheltenham town centre.

In Pole Position, players will find themselves entering the wooden cabin of Hut Point, circa 1911, to conduct important research and prepare the supplies, before venturing out into the cold Antarctic landscape.

The game is suitable for all players with no prior knowledge of the subject required. However, history buffs can spot factually accurate imagery and props, as well as enjoy puzzles inspired by real tasks carried out during the crew’s time on the expedition.

“It’s always so exciting to be able to create a room based on real historical figures from our amazing town. For me, it’s fascinating to learn all about the theme and be able to bring it to life, both for those who have a specific interest, as well as those who may be able to learn something new! This is probably my most ambitious build yet and I’m so excited to share it.” Megan, Games Designer

Escape Rooms Cheltenham is an independent venue where everything is designed and built in house. The entire game, from concept to final build, is carried out by Megan’s team, so you can be sure you’ll be getting a unique experience that won’t be replicated anywhere else.

One of our missions is to be sustainable and environmentally conscious, and so creating historical themes allows us to be more creative in sourcing furniture and props. We collect many unique pieces from charity shops, antiques markets, or online. It allows us to give items a new lease of life in our games (and then pass them along again once we’re finished with them for somebody else to enjoy!) It makes the rooms so much more interesting having props you can’t just pick up from anywhere, and it feels rewarding to be able to offer them a new home afterwards.

Pole Position will be opening from Tuesday 4th April, and will be suitable for players aged 11 and up.
