Operation Foresight is the name of our new permanent escape room, with a GCHQ-inspired theme, to be launched in June 2021.
Operation Foresight is set in 1969, and requires you to form a task force to tackle the threat of organised crime in the UK, in the wake of the removal of the “Firm”, headed up by the Kray twins, in that year. The team have just one hour to decipher, analyse and report on intelligence gathered from suspected rival underworld gangs.
This theme will be our first permanent escape room at our new town centre venue in Winchcombe St. To date, we have created “pop-up” escape rooms that run for six months and then “once they’re gone, they’re gone”. However, we decided that a flagship permanent room will also be an exciting addition to the new venue.
““We wanted to create a must-do escape room unique to Cheltenham, that will attract players to the town, as well as be enjoyed by locals. GCHQ was the obvious choice for a theme and we have worked hard to create a room that we feel represents this local icon. We know our players like the regularly changing pop-up rooms, but we were able to invest much more into new features for this permanent room and we believe our players will love it!””
Megan Prendergast, Product Director, Escape Rooms Cheltenham
The regularly changing pop-up rooms will also continue at the new venue, with Hacked (a cyber theme) and Hester’s Craft (a fantasy/witchcraft theme) also being launched this summer. A Holst-based theme, The Missing Piece, will follow later in the year.
Operation Foresight encourages the same analytical, problem-solving and teamworking skills GCHQ is famed for today, but is set in the pre-Internet age of the 1960s, in order to create a much more physical environment for the players to interact with.
Like all the escape rooms, Operation Foresight will be available in a standard and expert level, so it can be enjoyed by everyone, from beginners to GCHQ codebreakers themselves!
The room will be launched after the end of the Covid-19 lockdown on June 25th.
